Well, as promised, http://www.advocate.com/ has posted my article on our response to Fred Phelps and is followers! It’s so exciting to see my writing on a national website. I want to thank everyone for their support.

This is such a great opportunity to get our work and message out to the rest of the GLBT community. I’m proud to be a part of it. And, I’m proud to share the link to the advocate.com page where it sits:

    Dave:

I read your article at advocate.com. While I am glad everything worked out for the best, I am just a little bit cynical. You said that the community reached out to gay people – yeah, when the community needed something. I’d be curious to see what would happen if the tables were turned.

“Barriers were broken down” only because all of a sudden the barriers were affecting the people who put them up in the first place.

Where does your community stand on gay rights? The Kentucky Marriage Amendment passed with 75% of the votes. How many of the people in your community voted for this amendment. How many people in your community attend churches where homosexuals are blamed for all the ills of society?

Hi Dave, I’m real glad you saw the value of sharing gay community energy and know-how, with others who were being targeted on an emotional level in real hateful ways.

You contributed to their courage and stood with them when many would not. I’ll bet many who gathered that day, were forever changed and will remember who stood with them.

    Greetings from Maine – Ray

    Dave,

Nice article. Fred Phelps is soooo out to lunch. His view is so extreme, most evangelicals would disagree with him. On the other hand, Pat Robertson and other fundy leaders still make similar comments, e.g. Sharon deserved his condition because he gave up “God’s land.”

Nice to see people working together to stand against this kind of stuff.
