In America, we have a wide range of political views that typically vote Republican. There are those who are simply Republican because they agree with the party’s fiscal platform (which is probably a majority, I would guess), there are the right wing politicos, the Tea Party supporters, and then there are the batshit crazy wingnut teabaggers.
A classic example of the latter is whackadoodle Florida Congressman Allen West. He makes most Tea Party folks look sane. This guy puts the batshit in batshittery. Interestingly, though, the previous sentence is one that I never thought I’d have to write. Too bad.
Now, about the batshittery (for the record, that word rolls off the fingers as easily as it does the tongue. Type it. Five times. Fast. It’s great): He thinks that gay marriage is an “oxymoron” that will “end American society,” that “liberal women will neuter men,” and dropped his latest bit of guano with a claim that “78 to 81” House democrats are card-carrying members of the Communist Party.
Thanks to the thorough reporting by the good people at Right Wing Watch, we know the full sordid details of a small rally that was held for West yesterday. Since he knew he was in the midst of a mostly supportive group, he let it all hang out. First, he discounted one of their major issues, inlet dredging, as it “wouldn’t matter” if they didn’t deal with the deficit. That’s not so strange, it’s standard fare for Tea Party folks.
Then, he proudly declared that the President was “too scared” to meet with him.
“I really wish that, standing here before you, was Allen West and President Obama,” West said. “We could have a simple discussion. But that ain’t ever gonna happen.”
“Why not?” an audience member asked.
“Cuz he was too scared!” West responded in a mocking voice.
West said he’s met the president once very briefly at a White House holiday party.
I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I’m inclined to think that maybe, just maybe, the reason that the President of the United States is reluctant to meet with a wingnut batshit-crazy legislator is because he’s batshit-crazy. I could be wrong, though. But I doubt it.
But that was tame compared to his other bombshell. Apparently, as the Palm Beach Post reported, he had “heard” that up to 80 House Democrats were communists.
Response has been swift. House Democrats have gone ballistic. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) was his usual subtle self when he was asked about West’s asinine comments:
“Not even Joe McCarthy would have said anything so stupid and dissociated from reality,” Frank said in a call with The Huffington Post. “It’s an indication of the significant deterioration of the Republican Party as a responsible entity that an ignorant, mean guy like Allen West is considered one of their stars.”
Hell, not even the Communists themselves are silent. They’ve slammed West, calling his remarks a “sad ploy.”
“I just think it’s an absurd way to cast a shadow over his colleagues. It’s kind of a sad ploy,” Libero Della Piana, a vice-chairman of the national Communist Party, said of the Florida Republican’s charge that about 80 House Democrats were members of the radical party.
Naturally, in a classic bit of “just saying,” he and his team are denying the whole bit as just a “jab.”
However, his campaign manager, Tim Edson, told The Daily Caller that West’s full remarks make clear that he was making a jab at the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and not making an outlandish, McCarthyesque allegation.
“Some people are going to quibble about semantics,” he added. “The real point is these people speak for themselves and if you listen to the words of the progressive caucus it’s clear that these people are opponents of capitalism — they oppose free markets, they oppose individual economic freedom — so you can call them whatever you want — whether they’re socialists or marxists or communists.”
Semantics. This stupid ass hat is defending idiotic comments by confusing them with “semantics.” This sitting congressman is declaring that his fellow congressmen of being enemies to the United States, and we’re supposed to laugh it off with the notion of “semantics?”
Did I mention he was batshit-crazy? Or maybe he’s really secretly a Democrat since he’s clearly working embarrass the Republicans. Just saying.
