One of the most frequent, yet egregious lies told in any discussion regarding gay rights is that equality opponents say they’re labeled as bigots merely because of their “disagreement.” Nothing could be further from the truth. At this point, it’s become quite obvious that opponents to equality know full well that they are attempting hide from the rest of us the reality that “disagreement” is really a code word for “I don’t want to think about gay sex, so I’ll fight against your basic human rights with every ounce of my being.”
The Maryland State Senate passed a bill approving same-sex marriages in that state yesterday with a vote of 25 to 22. Democratic governor Martin O’Malley has promised to sign the bill into law. With yesterday’s vote, The Old Line State became the third state to pass gay marriage with legislative action in less than a month.
The infamous “Don’t Say Gay” (HB0229) bill cleared the Tennessee House Education Subcommittee yesterday after a voice vote. The bill was first championed by confirmed bachelor State Senator Stacey Campfield, who spent more than six years trying to get similar bills through the state legislature.
Campfield gained further notoriety when he embarrassed himself with bogus statistics while being interviewed by Sirius OutQ radio show host Michelangelo Signorile. He was also gloriously thrown out on his ass by a restauranteur in Knoxville.
How I wish I could have seen that.
It really is that simple. No matter how much you try to tell us how much you “love” homosexuals or the effort you take to convince us that you’re really acting in our best interest, we know the truth. You don’t like us. Not even a little bit.
Since the Family Research Council was designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center because of their dishonesty and frequent dispensation of known falsehoods regarding LGBT Americans, it hasn’t slowed down the number of times they’ve been called upon for a “conservative” voice on TV debates. If anything, Tony Perkins, the president of the group, has been on TV news channel more often.
As the court battles for the fate of California’s Proposition 8 come to a head with an imminent decision due from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals later today, several states are once again building referendum and voter campaigns to either ban or allow gay marriage. As you well know, Proposition 8 is the voter initiative that wrote anti-gay discrimination into the California constitution to ban gay marriage. Now, more states are working through various laws of their own, including New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, Maine, and of course, South Carolina — the only remaining Southern state that doesn’t have a gay marriage ban in their constitution.
Note: this article was previously published May 21, 2011 on BusinessClarksville.com. It’s important to note that the “Don’t Say Gay” bill is up for consideration once again. The measure will go before the State House Education Subcommittee this week. The fact that Sen. Campfield is pushing the bill through despite the rash of suicides by gay teens lately, including young Phillip Parker, who was in the eighth grade — and would have been directly affected by this completely ludicrous bill if it became law.
I am republishing this post here so that my readers can know exactly why this bill is so dangerous, and so completely wrong for our state — or any state. Legislation based on bigotry has no business being considered. Ever.

TransFormers: The Culture War
As the “culture war” rages in American politics, those on the far right behave as they are the Rightobots, charged to wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Deceptigays. Every time a Deceptigay rears their rainbow-colored heads, the Rightobots launch a full-scale attack with the sheer goal of wiping their great enemy off the map before the Deceptigays take control of the world to do God knows what with it… and force all Rightobots to accept Deceptigay rule. Or something.
