World Net Daily Lies about Gays – Again

By David W. Shelton On October 23, 2012 · Add Comment · In Gay Marriage
Looks like World Nut Daily is at it again. They have a nice article where Senator Jim Inhoffe claims that chaplains are being forced to marry same-sex couples against their will. What's particularly interesting is that a) the Pentagon's policy says the exact opposite and b) there's not one shred of evidence.

Gay Rights bills: passed, gutted, or held

By David W. Shelton On October 2, 2007 · 1 Comment · In Gay Rights
A few months ago, I wrote that there were three major bills that would create fairness and equality for all Americans, including those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender. Since then, one of them has passed both the House and the Senate, another has been watered down, and the third has yet to see [...]

Three bills for gay equality should be passed

By David W. Shelton On April 25, 2007 · Add Comment · In Gay Rights, Politics
Three bills that would put an end to serious injustices against GLBT people have been filed over the last few months in Washington, DC. The first, a bill that would repeal the failed “Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell-Don’t-Pursue” law that bans openly gay people from serving in the military, was filed a few months ago. The second is a [...]

Clarksville newspaper endorses lifting ban on gays in the military

By David W. Shelton On March 6, 2007 · 1 Comment · In Gay Rights, Politics
The Leaf-Chronicle has editorialized that the ban on gays serving in the military should be lifted. The paper, which serves the Clarksville-Montgomery county area, has been critical of the ban for years. Clarksville is home to Fort Campbell, which has had one of the highest ejection rates of gay soldiers in the last year. The [...]

Fear is no way to remember Barry Winchell

By David W. Shelton On October 28, 2006 · 3 Comments · In General Commentaries
The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network recently reported that Justin Fisher, the man who conspired with Calvin Glover to kill Pfc. Barry Winchell, was released from prison after serving 7 of a 12-year sentence. Barry’s murder brought national attention to Clarksville and Fort Campbell. It also gave new life to the call to end the failed [...]

Fort Campbell steps up gay soldier ejections

By David W. Shelton On August 16, 2006 · 1 Comment · In Gay Rights
Surprise, surprise, surprise! Fort Campbell had the second highest discharge rate in the nation of soldiers under the failed “don’t-ask-don’t-tell” policy. Clarksville’s neighboring Army base, the site of the brutal 1999 murder of Pfc. Barry Winchell, is still cashiering people out of the service at an alarming rate. According to information obtained by the Servicemembers [...]

Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell was a failure in 1993, and it’s a failure now.

By David W. Shelton On February 15, 2006 · 3 Comments · In Gay Rights
Today’s The Leaf-Chronicle has a delightful editorial in which they call for an end to the Don’t-ask-don’t-tell policy which allows gay and lesbian soldiers to serve as long as they’re closeted. Click here to read the article (This link will expire after 7 days, so hurry!) It’s already generated quite a bit of response, and [...]
