Those mean old homosexuals!

By David W. Shelton On May 24, 2014 · 2 Comments · In General Commentaries, Hate Groups
The last two years have been simply incredible for the LGBT equality movement, especially with the advance of marriage equality for same-sex couples. As of today, 19 states have full marriage equality with other states working their way through the courts. More people than ever support their gay and lesbian neighbors’ rights. But not everyone is celebrating.

What the Duck? Why the Right Wing has Totally Quacked

By David W. Shelton On December 21, 2013 · 33 Comments · In Gay Marriage, Gay Rights, General Commentaries, Hate Groups, podcast
Yes, we are all tired of the Phil Robertson and Duck Dynasty “controversy.” My own posts on Facebook on the topic drew fever-pitched debates and even resulted in one person un-friending me because I insisted that it has nothing to do with “Freedom of speech.” Once I stopped reading and rolling my eyes at the ridiculous comments on the whole ducking issue, I realized that if this was the front line of today’s culture war, then it was nothing more than a distraction of where the real battles were being fought.

Religious Liberty Does Not Trump Individual Rights, Part 2

By David W. Shelton On December 7, 2013 · 1 Comment · In Gay Rights, General Commentaries, Hate Groups, podcast
Early last year, I discussed the emerging debate over religious liberty versus LGBT equality. Sadly, the debate has only gotten more fever pitched due to the incessant drumbeat of hateful bigots like Matt Barber, Peter Labarbera, Bryan Fischer, and a myriad of other anti-gay blowhards. The fruit of their vitriol has started to bear; this time in the case of a Colorado bakery called Masterpiece Cakeshop.

Christians to be Persecuted for Righteousness?

By David W. Shelton On July 2, 2013 · 10 Comments · In Gay Marriage, Hate Groups
Here lately, I've been reading some interesting stories of how some far-right extremists (read: hate groups) are "ready to go to jail" in defiance of marriage equality. A few questions arise: Exactly how will they do this? Since a married couple has absolutely nothing to do with their own personal lives, what is their end goal?

How They See Us

Unmasking the Religious Right War on Gay America

This booklet by Alvin McEwin, who blogs over at Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters (gotta love the title!) presents one of the single most important pieces of the last few years. He expands what I touched on with my last post — and fully unmasks the outright evil that is being done by SPLC-certified hate groups.

The lies told about the LGBT community have been fairly consistent over the years, and their brutality has only been conflagrated over time with the addition of fancy formatting and Photoshopped images.

As I said - I've discussed nearly all of these frauds who hide behind their "Christianity" — but who are really little more than lying, bigoted thugs.

Read the booklet after the jump.

How to Gay Your Dragon: An Allegory

By David W. Shelton On December 30, 2012 · Add Comment · In Gay Rights, General Commentaries, Hate Groups, podcast

One of my favorite movies is the 2010 DreamWorks animated film, How to Train Your Dragon. It’s a charming, sweet little adventure of an awkward teenage boy who befriends one of the most misunderstood creatures in the world — a dragon. Together, he and Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, embark on an adventure that eventually changes everything he knows.

Imagine my amusement when I realized that this film is the perfect allegory for the gay rights struggle.

Anti-gay hate groups show true colors and tantrums

By David W. Shelton On May 2, 2012 · 5 Comments · In Gay Rights, Hate Groups, Politics
In the long quest toward reconciliation between LGBT Christians and the Church at large, we must be clear about reality. This is no easy task. Quite frankly, there are plenty of people who are convinced that it’s not even remotely possible. If I weren’t a man of faith, I might even agree with that assessment. This crazy idea might just be impossible. However difficult or even impossible the task might be, I’m reminded of several things. First, I am a man of faith. My faith isn’t in myself, or even my abilities. It certainly isn’t in my fellow man or in the Church. The object and focus of my faith is in Jesus Christ Himself — who was very clear about what we considered to be impossible. After all, He said all things are possible. All things. All. Who then can be saved? Anyone. Who then can be healed? Anyone. Who then can be restored? Anyone. Who then can be brought together? Any one. No exceptions. No disclaimers. No asterisks.

Anti-gay hate groups protest SPLC with more lies

By David W. Shelton On January 17, 2012 · Add Comment · In Gay Rights, Hate Groups
I have a simple message for the representatives of the hate groups that protested the Southern Poverty Law Center today, demanding that the SPLC remove them from their hate group list: Get over it. You are hate groups.
